Improving infrastructure to boost business and economy. At the time of writing this post (October 2022), 10 impressive megaprojects across the country were in progress.
The beauty about Zimbabwe’s economy is that it’s so diverse and has ample opportunities to form linkages across different sectors. Various sectors are covered by the impressive projects including tourism, mining, agriculture, education, transport, manufacturing, and information technology.
Hwange Power Station Extension
Through the Hwange Power Station Extension project, Zimbabwe will generate more electricity supply. And this is so critical to the economic development and electricity generation to solve the power-cuts problem.
Zimbabwe Urban Renewal Project
The aim of the Zimbabwe Urban Renewal Project is to develop new infrastructure and to introduce new sustainable services. This includes building a new satellite at Victoria Falls.
Beitbridge Border Post Modernization Project
The Beitbridge Border Post Modernization Project is constructing the highway and to widen it. Also, it covers the construction of the fire station, residential buildings and a water reservoir.
Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project
The Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project will solve the water crisis in the country. This water project will solve the persistent problem of water scarcity by bringing water from the Zambezi River.
Mt Hampden Smart City Project
Mt. Hampden Smart-City Project will build a new city that features high-tech infrastructure and new parliament buildings.
Harare Metro Rail
The aim of this project is to solve the transport problems by providing a reliable and affordable transport system. Plans are to build the light electric railway system in three phases, which mostly cover high-density locations in the city.
The railway line will transform Zimbabwe’s capital to become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. To be completed in Phase 1, 2, 3. Phase 3 brings transport link to Robert Mugabe Airport.
Robert Mugabe International Airport Expansion
Zimbabwe expects the expansion project to boost tourism in the country. The work entails expanding the international terminal building, aprons, installing 4 new air bridges and a VIP pavilion.
The goal is to make the airport a regional aviation hub that will handle millions of passengers annually.
Zimbabwe project to modernize Zimbabwe roads and infrastructure.
Zimbabwe started an infrastructure development program to build more highways. This will create a safer environment for drivers to ensure the quicker movement of goods and people across the region.
Also, spurring further economic development in the country. Harare-Bulawayo Road and the Mutare road are part of the project.
Kariba South Expansion Project
Kariba South Power Station Expansion Project to boost the biggest source of domestic electricity supply in Zimbabwe. The project will provide 300 megawatts to Zimbabwe’s power grid, improving the economy.
Zimbabwe Ciber City
The project is to build a new city in Mt Hampden with homes, shops, and entertainment for tourists.. The new capital city is part of the strategy to decongest Harare, which can no longer accommodate a population of over 2.1 million people.
The new city will house Government Ministries, Parliament, residential areas, shopping malls, hotels and industries.
